If you need a quick way to get into a health care job, medical assisting might be right for you. The program starts a new cohort of students each fall, with clinical experience taking place in the summer of the following year.
Medical Assistants:
- Work directly with patients in a physician's office or urgent care.
- Work typically Monday through Friday hours.
- Perform medical tests.
- Prepare and administer medications.
- Assist with patient exams, and more.
- Complete an inquiry form to learn more about the program or request a meeting with the program director.

Lakeland's medical assisting graduates are then eligible to take the national certification exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant, known as a CMA.

"I knew that I wanted to help people. I knew that I loved the human body and I wanted to be more interested in it. So, I knew I needed to go to school to learn about health care. I want to work with people, so I looked into being an MA. And all I can say is that I'm so happy that I did this, because not only did I learn hard skills like learning how to do blood pressure, and more with billing and all that. But I also learned soft skills. I learned how to talk to people. I was very nervous before I started here."

"I began my journey pursuing a degree in early childhood education. However, about two years ago I got a feeling that I should be doing something else. So I started taking a couple of health care classes, like medical terminology, and I LOVED it and my grades reflected it. I applied to the medical assisting program and I just found my place. My professor, Denise Lash, was so supportive and my classmates were awesome! I will be finishing in August (2020) and hope to work for Cleveland Clinic so if I want to go further in health care, I have my foot in the door in a good hospital."
