The civil engineering technician plays an important role in all phases of the planning, design and construction of highways, bridges, dams, airports, irrigation projects, treatment and distribution facilities for water, and collection and treatment of wastewater, and buildings from residential structures to mini shopping malls to the Cleveland Brown's stadium.
Today's civil engineering technicians are involved in:
- Estimating costs and controlling project costs
- Preparing specifications for materials of construction
- Designing and drafting of buildings, land development projects and highways
- Job site inspecting for conformance with drawings and specifications
- On site and laboratory testing of construction materials
- Boundary surveying and construction layout
